What is the mission of the Society?
- Provide a platform for gaming and esports
- Make us seen as equals with other sports societies in the university
What are the key functions of the Society?
- Communication
- Socials
- Following through on plans and ideas
What are the components of these functions?
- Planning
- Events
- Local partnerships
- Socials
What do we need to do to improve these functions?
- Host socials/events
- Planning
- Communications
- More contact with esports teams
- Could better inform members about socials
- Engagement with members
What are the activities/skills/knowledge that add value to the Society?
- Activities, such as Bailrigg and Alton Towers
- Knowledge on how to set up events
- Leadership skills
- Positivity
- Basic information on:
- The Constitution
- Society Interest
- University Demographics
- Social Skills
- Time management skills
- Punctuality
- Problem-solving
What else would we do with time/resources?
- Streaming
- Communicate to learn about demographics
- Slash resources
- Have more events with colleges, perhaps not Cartmel due to past experiences
- Achieve wider community representation
- Get more games/consoles
- More variety
- Support the esports side of the society
What more/right skills can we bring to the Society?
- Engaging more with members
- Organising Society Sunday better or other similar events such as GeekFest
- More liaising with other societies & organisation negations
- Make sure current members are happy
How could the core functions of the society and its Committee be improved?
- The Society’s social media is very decentralized
- Need to distribute society information evenly and centralise information
- Remove roles that are unnecessary
- Planning e.g.
- Who is running each event during LANs
- Basic LAN preparation
- More structure in general
What skills and new approaches can we adopt to improve the Society?
- Centralise social media
- Publicise events on time
- Introduce more variety/different things to do at socials
How can we improve the quality of services & activities we provide to members?
- Move the County Socials back to Tuesdays instead of Fridays
- Make members feel more welcome in the Society
- Make a separate Discord server for esports teams
- Would add dedicated esports related news relevant to members in this server
- Restructure the main Discord server, may make a new server or completely “reset” the main server
- Focus on making the new server member-focused, would need further discussion on this
What additional services can we offer members?
- Society trips, such as the Alton Towers Trip
- Ask members what services what they would like to have in the Society
- Need to follow up on the Bowland Bar conversion into a space exclusively for the Society
- Could go out for drinks after socials/esports events
- Expensive and can’t quite a few members don’t drink
What needs do we have that aren’t met?
- Member interest
- Member retention
- Getting epsorts to affiliate more with the Society and community representation
General objectives of the Committee
- Committee members need to “pay more attention”
- Looking in the Committee chat more frequently for updates
LAN Plan
The following Committee members have stated that they will be available to help set up for the Summer LAN 2:
- Karen Cheung
- Brent Oates
- Kieran Taylor
- Ryan Tracey
- Mubarak Salawu
Detroit: Become Human – Would periodically ask people if they are interested in getting involved in the stream every hour or so
- Considering streaming via Discord screen-sharing
Committee members that have stated that they will be making at least one quiz round:
- Josh Brown (two rounds)
- Kieran Taylor (one round)
- Noah Valpy-White (one round)
Will be having a colouring competition with physical colouring pages and colouring equipment
Custom games:
- Should use free games for the sake of accessibility
- Halo already has a library of custom games
- Could do:
- Overwatch’s Gun Game
- Team Fortress’s Prop Hunt
- Custom Left 4 Dead maps
Pendle Games Night
Committee feedback states that the Pendle Games Night socials feel more like a LUMAS social
Decided Senet’s presence at the Pendle Games Nights would be encouraged
Need more activities for members to partake in
- Could set up the Switch to play something that isn’t necessarily Smash Bros.
- Decided that Jackbox would be a good idea however, it would be too loud downstairs to play along with the large screen being occupied, both due to Rockband
- Could ask members what activities they would like to partake in while they aren’t playing Rockband
Need to procure a new Rockband guitar
Themed events for County Socials
Would require planning better than we currently provide to the County Socials
May have to reduce the Smash at the socials but not get rid of it entirely
- Could play Smash games with:
- Items
- Custom games
Next Meeting
The next meeting will be at 7pm on Friday, the 7th of June. Venue currently unconfirmed but will be in BNSR 13 if possible
19:35 – Meeting End
