18:06 – Meeting Start

Esports

Josh stated that the main reason why the Esports Wetherspoons social did not go through because we can’t actively exclude one side of the Society.

  • Karen responded by stating that the social wouldn’t have been exclusive to the Esports players but would have been primarily targeted towards them.

Josh informed the Committee that the Overwatch team plays on Thursdays so they wouldn’t have been able to attend the last Spoons Social that the Committee organised.

Ben asked what sort of socials the Esports teams would like to see run, apart from drinking socials.

Karen stated that the reason why she brought up the motion removing the section that stated Esports Coordinators are responsible for running tournaments at the last General Meeting was that she believed that it couldn’t be done with the resources and facilities that are currently available to the Committee.

Karen suggested allowing the Esports players to book rooms under the Society occasionally as a place to practice.

  • This would mean that at least one Committee member would have to be present for each room that is being used.

Ben stated that he was unsure if people would leave their flats on campus or houses in town to come to the University to practice in these rooms if the option was available.

  • Karen responded by stating that we could spread out the rooms that we book across campus to make them as accessible as possible for all the Esports players.
  • Josh stated that the Welcome Centre is probably the closest set of rooms that we could get that isn’t one of the Bowland North Seminar Rooms as the Management School isn’t an option.

It was suggested that the Committee could run the tournaments online, similar to how Minecraft is usually run at the LANs

  • This would mean that the Committee would have to decide as to whether or not to run these tournament events during the LANs or as their own separate events.

Karen stated that the Committee would still have to provide an incentive for the Esports players to participate in the tournaments.

Ben suggested creating a budget for prizes for these tournaments.

  • Possible prizes could be the figurines that the Society recently acquired.
  • Karen suggested that the tournaments should be spaced out based on the prizes that are given out.
    • Jack suggested that the Committee could run a few small tournaments throughout the terms and run a larger one during the LAN.

Josh stated that he is against having a budget for the prizes for the tournaments.

Complaints from the membership

A member has stated that he isn’t happy with Ben‘s presidency and that he isn’t as ‘committed’ as he should be to the Society as he occasionally attends the Senet: Card and Board Game Society weekly social.

  • The Committee decided to try and bring this member in to discuss their gripes with the Society and/or the Committee, Ben included.

Ben suggested creating a poll to find out what types of socials members would be most interested in.

Jerseys

Jack suggested that we use the new Esports logo for this year’s jerseys.

Ben stated that we would need to contact Raven to upload the new logo so we can create new jerseys for this year.

Karen suggested having the Esports players should get an exclusive hoodie with the Esports logo.

The current list of hoodie providers that the Committee are considering using are as follows:

  • Promotional Gods – Lancaster based, used by LURPS (Lancaster University Role-Play Society)
  • PrintKahf – Would need more information to make an informed decision.

James stated that he would get a quote from both providers.

Dominos Sponsorship

Normally, the Society can’t do cash payments as this is against Union guidelines but currently unsure as to whether or not this is the case if the money doesn’t go to us, such as would be the case if the Committee used the cash payments to directly pay Dominos or any external 3rd party.

New Equipment

The list of potential items being bought are, but aren’t limited to:

  • A new network switch (the one currently in use by the society has not been working optimally).
  • A monitor
  • An Amazon wireless Xbox controller adapter to speed up the pairing of Xbox controllers to a PC, namely, the Society laptop.

Bullying of a specific member

  • Ben stated that he should be meeting with this particular member on Thursday to resolve any potential conflicts that may still exist.

Coaching of members

  • Nothing came of the idea, seemingly due to lack of interest from the majority of the membership.

AOB

  • There have been rumours spread online about the Society’s LANs although they were, for the most part, harmless feedback.
  • Isaac was given a parking ticket as the Union have not issued him with a parking permit yet.
    • Josh stated that he, possibly accompanied by Mo, would go to the Union to resolve the issue.
