ATOM presents a multidisciplinary approach combining wireless communications, computer cryptography, energy efficiency and mathematics. In order to achieve the aforementioned objectives, ATOM will develop five areas of research, organised into the following five Workpackages (WP):

Work
Package
Work Package TitleActive Type
1Project ManagementManagement
2Design of a heterogeneous MIMO network architectureResearch, training, and dissemination
3Green MIMO communicationsResearch, training, and dissemination
4Secure MIMO CommunicationsResearch, training, and dissemination
5Experimental studiesResearch, training, and dissemination

WP1: Project management and knowledge transfer

The aim of this WP is to ensure a proper level of co-operation, communication, knowledge diffusion and consensus among project members and to carry out external liaison, as well as to organise and run specific transfer of knowledge activities.

WP2: Design of a heterogeneous MIMO network architecture by combining massive MIMO and C-RAN

C-RAN and massive MIMO have been recognized as the key enabling technologies for supporting high-speed high-quality service in future wireless networks, and the aim of this workpackage is to develop a novel heterogeneous network architecture by efficiently combining C-RAN with massive MIMO.

WP3: Realizing green wireless communications by using advanced MIMO technologies

Four tasks will be finished by designing a novel algorithm-theoretic framework in order to successfully implement the green wireless communications in the heterogeneous MIMO network.

WP4: Develop MIMO aided security solutions via exploring physical layer characteristics

Due to the huge challenging to apply the keyless physical layer security schemes in the practical scenario, this WP is going to find out what will restrict the keyless physical layer security and design the efficiency solutions through combining physical layer security and conventional cryptographic schemes.

WP5: Testbed Setup and Experimental Evaluation

The aim of this work package is to provide an experimental verification of the system enhancements promised by the theoretic studies in WP2-WP4.
