My PhD project is entitled ‘Understanding Neuronal Synchronisation in High Dimensions’. I am supervised by Dr Carolina Euan and Dr Alex Gibberd from Lancaster University, alongside Dr Ali Shojaie from the University of Washington.

Currently, we are focussing on characterising dependencies between neurons, as evidenced via their firing patterns and rates. From a statistical point of view, we are interested in improving estimates of the spectral properties of multivariate point processes in a robust manner, in regimes where the number of data-streams is very large. In doing so, it is hoped that we might be able to extract some meaningful dependencies in the signalling dynamics of neurons, and consequently provide an enhanced understanding of connectivity network in the brain.
