Cumberland Lodge

This School for postdoctoral and postgraduate researchers will address raising fundamental issues related to new quantum physics discovered in low-dimensional materials and nanostructures, as well as the on-going search for applications of quantum phenomena in new types of functional devices. The programme is designed provide a comprehensive review of the recent progress in the theory and experiment in the following areas:

  • Graphene (fundamental material properties and graphene-based devices)
  • Topological insulators
  • Heterostructures of transition metal oxide compounds
  • Quantum phase transitions
  • Theoretical techniques for strongly correlated low-dimensional systems: bosonisation and renormalization group
  • Physics of new superconductors (such as pnictides)
  • Spin qubits, superconducting qubits, and nanomechanical systems
  • Semiconductor photonics (microcavity polaritons and their condensation, quantum optics of quantum dots)

Participants are welcome to present their own work at poster sessions preceded by brief introductory talks.
