Community Development

The Community Development Program of the Public Health and Health Professional Development Unit was developed to create the capacity within the National Health Service in the North West of England to use community approaches for health improvement.

The program was developed because the creation of social capital for health through community and organisational development has been highlighted by the World Health Organisation, the World Bank, the UK Department of Health, the Home Office and Local Government Management Board as a key strategy to tackle some of the most persistent and intractable social, health and economic problems.

From June to November, 1999, the program will provide:

  • A list of useful web sites for community development for health
  • A resource guide of concepts, models, strategies and tools for community approaches to health.

Details of any future courses will be published on this page
