Background to the Unit

The Public Health and Health Professional Development Unit, established in March 1996 as a partnership between the National Health Service in the North West and Lancaster University, aims to provide and promote continuing public health education and professional development for public health practitioners in the North West and elsewhere, provide public health professional support for undergraduate and post-graduate students and undertake research and management development work in Health Service management.

Aims and strategies of the Unit

  • support for continuing professional development for public health physicians through a comprehensive programme of CPD accredited events
  • to hold a series of general seminars on current public health topics and issues
  • development of workshops and short courses on health related topics and management for doctors
  • a contact for people in the Health Service requiring support in the development of research projects, for example,
  • preparation of research bids, access to expert advice and project management
  • participation in research and the provision of epidemiological support to University research bids.
