Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts

Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA) encompasses Lancaster’s teaching and research activities in Art, Dance, Design, Film and Theatre. A strong research ethos underpins and shapes what we do. Research activities ensure our contributions are recognised in contemporary practice, theory, and performance. Staff, students, and graduates set agendas in, and make meaningful contribution to, the contemporary arts.

The UK government's recent Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) placed Art and Design research, which at Lancaster includes Music, Theatre, Film and New Media, going up ten places in ranking on intensity-weighted GPA to be 7th in the UK with 82% of our research classed as world (4*) or internationally (3*) leading.

Dr Emmanuel Tsekleves is the programme leader for our new BA Design Interactions degree.
