Research Centres

Bioethics and Medical Law homeCentre for Bioethics and Medical Law promotes high quality interdisciplinary research in bioethics and medical law across a number of disciplines within the University with a clear unifying focus upon the legal and medical dimensions of biomedicine.


Religion and Society homeAHRC/ESRC Religion and Society Programme is a collaborative venture between the Arts and Humanities Research Council and Economic and Social Research Council.

Together these UK government funded research councils have contributed £12m to fund research of the highest quality on the interrelationships between religion and society.

Research Structures in Peace and Security

Richardson Institute homeRichardson Institute Established in 1959, the peace research centre at Lancaster was the first in Britain, and one of the first in the world. It has always been dedicated to pioneering research in peace and conflict studies, in the spirit of the Quaker scientist, Lewis Fry Richardson.

Security LancasterPPR is home to the Security Futures strand of Security Lancaster, a centre of excellence integrating behavioural, management, social and technological research to address the security of individuals, organisations and society. View more about Security Futures»

Groups and Clusters

CPERC homeCultural Political Economy Research Centre (CPERC) seeks to build on the success of the Cultural Political Economy Research Cluster within the Institute for Advanced Studies and the wider academic reception of the cultural political economy (CPE) approach.

Philosophy of Mind and Psychology A number of people have research interests in the philosophy of mind, psychology, psychoanalysis and psychiatry, and there is a reading group devoted to these areas.
