
Earvin Charles Cabalquinto
Profile Dr Earvin Charles Cabalquinto is Lecturer in Communication in the School of Communication and Creative Arts (SCCA) at Deakin University, Australia. He is also a member of the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation. His research on the intersections of digital media, mobilities and migration has been published in top-tier journal publications, including Mobile Media & Communication, Media, Culture & Society, International Journal of Communication, Information, Communication and Society, and Telematics and Informatics, as well as in edited volumes. He is currently working on a book entitled (Im)mobile Homes: Family Life at a distance in the age of mobile media, which is under contract with Oxford University Press. He is also working on a collaborative research project that unpacks the role of YouTube in the mediation of intimacy, identity, labour, and politics in the Philippines. The outcome of the project is a book, YouTube and the Brokerage of Social Transactions in the Philippines. The contracted book is part of the Asian Visual Culture series of Amsterdam University Press. Further, he is working on a pilot study that examines how Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) elderly people in Melbourne, Australia use mobile media in engendering and undermining everyday mobilities and crisis communication. His research interest includes digital media, mobilities, migration, mobile intimacy, caregiving at a distance, networked spaces, and the politics of mediated mobilities.
