Yolande Strengers discusses the mobile extensions of the home in the age of the Internet of Things.

The Internet of Things and smart devices are increasingly entwined in the performances of local practices inside the home. However, they are also expanding the boundaries of the home itself, through remote access to appliances and home services, the increasing reliance on remote data servers and digital infrastructures, and communication between home appliances and external providers such as energy companies. I am interested in these mobile extensions of the home enabled by smart technologies and digital infrastructures.

This presentation was given during the event ‘CeMoRe Showcase and Lunch’.

Yolande Strengers is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Urban Research, RMIT University and an International Visiting Fellow at the DEMAND Centre, Lancaster University (April-July 2016).
