Transportation

Getting to Lancaster University from Manchester Airport

  1. By taxi: There are several taxi firms based in Lancaster who operate a special service between Lancaster and Manchester Airport at a cheaper rate than taxis at the airport. However, you do need to make a reservation in advance. You can do this directly by contacting any of the following:

    • Airport Express: (44) 1524 420042, martinsanders@mobileemail.vodafone.net
    • Airport Solutions: (44) 1524 420438, mal.thorpe66@bt.connect.com
    • Air Car: (44) 1524 845845
    • ABC Taxis: (44) 1524 410884

The fare is approximately £50 one-way and £95 return. Taxi drivers do not accept credit cards.

When you make your reservation, you will need to give your name, expected arrival time and flight details, including the airport you are flying from.

We don't recommend taking one of the taxis waiting outside the airport as they are much more expensive.

  2. By train: There's a direct train line from Manchester Airport to Lancaster. Trains run every half hour and the journey takes approximately 60-90 minutes. You might have to change trains in central Manchester or at Preston. The fare is approximately £15-20.00 one-way and £20-25.00 return.

You can buy train tickets at the airport from one of the machines in the baggage reclaim area – this means you can avoid having to queue at the station.

You can get information about trains at the Airport Information Desk, view timetables. If you're arriving on Saturday, the first train to Lancaster is at 05:29, and the last at 22:00; on Sunday, the first train is at 09:30 and the last at 20:30.

All buses drop off at the University underpass, beneath Alexandra Square in the centre of the campus (no. 29 on the campus map). It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the university bus stop to the conference venue (see below for details).
