D a semicircle 5 inches round: This roll forms the outside
or dripstone of the arches: of the two I examined nearest
the bridge of sighs and falls on the central Lombard
capital purely divided scientifically, as opp: The moulding
is noble for size, but hard in its useless central cavetto
K and it is excessively ungraceful when it meets in the apex
of the arch - especially the two great rolls - A it is easy
to conjecture the resemblance which these suggest as they
approach each other: I imagine the whole is late work:
of the date, whatever that may be, of the interior arcade
of the second story on the three sides most aged of
the palace court: I think I see the same style in the
leaf work of the capital drawn at p on No 83 (By
A the bye, observe how in this leaf - and many more -
Ribs. Their exquisite effect is produced by a rib emergent from

Upper arcade and the arch section of that pointed arch arcade
Inner Cortile is the same - only bolder than even this and better
applied; and the rolls, instead of coinciding fall
separately on abacus - Fig 1 p No 65 is a rude
approximation to the arch section - a b of course soffit
& moulding same on both sides: Some of the piers
are solid, of the singular plan fig 2 in which note
