[M2.113L] [M2.113] 113 The peculiar and beautiful brick arches [drawing] either plain or with instance occurs magnificent upon the so called tomb of various diamond or chequer ornament occur in multitudes on St Antenor: and almost every other form combined with this Antonio and throughout Padua - it is in fact the prevailing style. on St Antonio, more especially the root of it, the plain diamond and the noble Chess or dice tesselation [drawing] properly used on the arches of the minarets which I am amazed to find are of the rare form [drawing] having small pointed arches beneath them - being a most curious, and graceful reconciliation of the pointed and round: (I cannot but doubt the original form of this arch in the two southern porches of St Mark’s) and at the top, becoming a delicate ogee [drawing] 5th Windows. The ogee curves used in the Gothic here are for the most part the first transition from the point to it [drawing] just [touched?] at the extremity, and the palace windows are remarkable both for the delicacy of this curve and for the small and rich flower plinths encompassing them, far more delicate than anything at Venice, a very old trifoliate form occurs also fig 1 opp; in simple brick and every coil of the cable a brick separate. Capitals. But note especially that the curious capital like a base with raised leaves[?]reversed, and very shallow in the bell noticed as unique in the Canna reggio at Venice, occurs frequently in the streets {arcades} of Padua and Vicenza and is always detestable. Arcades. One of the Gothic palaces of Vicenza has a very beautiful effect
