manners; of which however only [gap] have been used externally
1. Frieze above frieze (i.e.) Coursed: In interior of ancient
temples: as Paestum, in insular end [?], Pisa, in
baptistery of Parma.
21. Frieze above frieze (b) Involved: I know no example
of this style, and I think it would be very useful.
32. Arch over friezes, a coursed; very rare; 2 b involved
non existent.
3. Frieze over arch a coursed, as when the arc pillars
carry a vaulting shaft or rather cornice shaft, to
cornice only, as in St Ambrogio; b: involved, a most
