Doge’s Palace. The broad angle capital under the Noah, has, in front
of it towards ponta della Paglia, a boy with a bird held
across his breast, its wings open; at left hand on
west side, a loy with a comb, large and small toothed, and
a pair of scissors.
The second is the Bird one, only 3 inches sides
still left out, of wall, called "first" at p 4 Doges Palace
book, and Daguerred at 2nd.
The Third is called Second at p 4 Palace book.
It is highly interesting to compare the children
on this fourth with those on the piazzaeta side: Those on
the fourth side are full of childish life, playful, human, af
fectionate full of sensation and vivacity, with much man-
liness and firmness - some and not a little teachery, and
perhaps some hardness and cruelty lurkijg under all but
they will be thorough men when they grow up, they will do
great things and fierce ones - and perhaps some vile ones,
But those on the are dull, curly haired - barbered dun
dunces, without a spark in their dim eyes or a meaning
line un their fal stolid cheeks - they will grow up into
perfumed coxcombs and will spend their lives in thoughts
of snuff and brocade, or in gambling and fiddling.
