By Permission of the Trustees of Dulwich Picture Gallery
The Villa of Maecenas, at Tivoli, by Richard Wilson. Painted for Sir George Beaumont; one of four pictures of the subject. The first version was painted for the Earl of Thanet who insisted on having Horace's Bandusian fountain included for poetic interest, although it was in reality some miles away from the scene. Given to the National Gallery in 1826 by Beaumont (No 108).
