Literary Gazette

Founded in 1817 by the publisher Henry Colburn, its political and religious perspectives were Tory and Anglican. Contributors included William Maginn (founder of Fraser's Magazine), B. W. Procter and George Croly. (See Hayden, Romantic Reviewers.)

A harsh review in the Literary Gazette, 14 May 1842 was part of the critical attack on Turner which prompted the writing of Modern Painters I.
