Rurban = Rural+Urban

We define rurbanisation as the process of increasing the presence of green space and or agriculture in towns and cities: a ruralisation of the urban.

We are interested in how rurbanisation, particularly increases in urban agriculture, may help to:

• reconnect us with nature and food,
• change eating behaviors and health,
• bring the benefits of ecosystems in city environments, and
• create resilient more localised food systems.

We are interested in many forms of rurbanisation: from allotments and community gardens, to back gardens and urban orchards, and from indoor vertical growing to rooftop gardens and edible walls.
