Research in BLS

Research in Biomedical and Life Sciences, Lancaster University

In BLS we investigate the basic cellular and physiological mechanisms underpinning diseases, to expand knowledge of the processes and to find effective solutions.

This can be divided into three areas, with considerable collaboration between them:

Our research groups also work with our colleagues in the rest of the Faculty of Health and Medicine to address the Faculty’s core interdisciplinary research themes of Ageing, Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Cancer, Infectious Diseases, Mental Health and Public Health.

The nature and scale of these challenges mean that our researchers work closely with colleagues from other disciplines within the University, plus a network of partners, both within and the UK and globally, including businesses, governments and non-governmental organisations.

Sources of funding for research in the Division include research councils (e.g. BBSRC, MRC, ESRC), charities (e.g. Wellcome Trust, North West Cancer Research, Alzheimer's Society) and industry (e.g. Boots, GSK, Renshaw, Novartis).
