Dr. Nayanika Mookherjee (Sociology) spoke at an invited seminar in the House of Lords on 19th June on the 'Trial of War Criminals of the Bangladesh War of 1971'. Here paper was titled 'Ethical Futures: History Making and Representation of Narratives of Sexual Violence of the Bangladesh War of 1971'. This seminar was supported by the UK Parliamentary Human Rights Group, Baroness Pola Uddin and Bangla Carta 71. This seminar is related to the recent announcement of the attempt to set up a war crimes tribunal for the Bangladesh War of 1971. A report of this seminar is being sent to the Law Commission in Bangladesh which is dealing with the war crimes tribunal. This paper of hers was also included and read out on her behalf at the Second International Conference on Genocide, Truth and Justice in the Liberation War Museum, (www.liberationwarmuseum.org/genocide) Dhaka held on 30th-31st July 2009.
