Departmental Filestore Maintenance 7th Jan to 8th Jan10:36 - 18/12/2014

ISS will be doing essential maintenance work on personal filestore and migrating departmental filestore. Work will start at 7pm and finish the following morning at 7am on the 7th and 8th January 2015. Filestores will be available, however there will be intermittent breaks in service. During the weekend of the 19th September all data will be moved over to this new hardware. Site License for Adobe Creative Cloud 17:21 - 11/08/2014

The University has a new site license for Adobe Creative Cloud. Adobe Creative Cloud includes Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Premiere and many other applications. Learning Zone laptop loans unavailable 16-17 November14:48 - 15/11/2013

The laptop dispenser in the Learning Zone will be unable to loan out University laptops from 1.00pm on Saturday 16 November to 8.30am on Monday 18 November.

If you book out a laptop before 1.00pm on Saturday 16th, you will still be able to return it as normal at any time during your 3 hour loan period.

This is due to upgrades to the Library booking out system.

Issues With Mac OSX 10.9 Mavericks - RESOLVED10:02 - 31/10/2013

ISS is aware of some issues with accessing ISS Services from the new Mac operating system 'OSX 10.9 Mavericks'. We know the current version of Symantec Endpoint Protection does not work on OSX 10.9. Until most key software has been tested, and where appropriate patches installed, ISS advises users to delay upgrading to Mac OSX 10.9 Mavericks.more »

A number of Apple Mac users may be experiencing problems connecting to printers on campus. The issue appears to be with Mac software's inability to automatically find printers on the network. RESOLVED - Software and IUS Server Failure 09:52 - 12/11/2012

11:05 Thu 15/11/12 - All affected Services, including IUS & MATLAB licensing, are now functioning as normal. Please report any remaining issues to the ISS Service Desk.


The server for: IUS, MATLAB, GAUSS, Maple versions 10 to 13, IDL and ArcGIS failed due to hardware failure on the weekend (11/11/12). Due the the licence server unavailability, some of the software, including MATLAB, will not function. more »

Adobe Reader PDF Alert16:53 - 09/11/2012

There is an un-patched vulnerability in the Acrobat Reader PDF system that could allow infected PDFs to infect your PC with a damaging Trojan.

UPDATE - AOL Blocking University Email12:20 - 08/11/2012

Friday 9th Nov - Mail delivery to AOL email addresses is now OK.


Due to a 'Trojan' infected PC sending out Spam to AOL addresses, the University has been blocked by AOL. Delays in outgoing mail to AOL are being experienced by users. Users will get an error message back if their email has not been delivered to an AOL address.

Users are reminded to be careful about clicking on unknown links in emails and opening/downloading attachments in suspect emails.more »

When you get emails purporting to come from a bank asking for your account details. They will be fakes. New students to set up their IT account Before Arrival12:59 - 18/07/2012

New students will be asked to set up their IT Account and validate their PC or laptop for ResNet before they come to Lancaster at the start of the 2012/13 academic year. This will give the students access to IT resources (such as their University email) before coming to Lancaster, and access to the campus IT network and Internet as soon as they arrive. Information they receive via email will lead them through the process of pre-registration (in which they confirm specific personal information) then the setup of their IT Account and, where relevant, the validation of their PC or Laptop for ResNet. more »

Change of Use of Web Proxy Servers12:42 - 21/05/2012

Use of the University web proxy (web cache) is now optional. For a number of years, IT users on campus have had to use the web proxy in order to access web content from the Internet. Changes have been made to the 'lancaster' (open) wireless network to resolve recent connection and login issues. ISS recommends the use of the 'eduroam' (secure) wireless network for connecting to the University network. Network Maintenance15:52 - 25/04/2012

On Tuesday 1st May ISS will be performing essential network maintenance in Bowland Main, Bailrigg House, Great Hall and Engineering A8 lab. Work will begin at 06:00 and will be complete by 08:30. During this time users will experience a short disruption to both their wired and wireless network connections. IP telephones with extensions that begin with a 1 will also experience a short disruption to service, which will be minimised wherever possible.more »

'Lancaster' Wireless Problems15:47 - 25/04/2012

Users of the wireless network named 'Lancaster' may be experiencing very long log-in times (up to 90 seconds). Once logged in, users should be receiving normal performance. ISS engineers are working on returning the service to normal. The 'Eduroam' wireless network is working as normal and should be used in preference if possible.
