Changing your password on Unix

When you change your Unix password, please remember it must be at least 6 characters long and contain at least two letters and one number (or special character), in those 6 characters.

  1. At the Unix % prompt type passwd
  2. Type in your current password when prompted and press Enter
  3. Type in a new password when prompted and press Enter
  4. Type the new password in again to confirm it and press Enter

You should then see a message confirming that your password has been changed. You should be able to use your new password within approx. 10 minutes if you log out.
