Task 6. What are the non-optimal or negative aspects of NFM performance and how effective will be they be with climate change?

We combined our experimental evidence (Task 2) and modelling (Task 4) to expore negative aspects of introduced NFM interventions.

Q-NFM

Specific tasks:

Under Objective 6, we identified some key negative aspects of NFM interventions. One such aspect is the risk of collapse of the introduced features. As an example we modelled the risks of collapse of Enhanced In-channel Storage features (also called 'leaky dams') within Hankin et al., 2020. We also explored attributes of NFM feature design that were seen to be non-optimal in terms of flood peak reductions, e.g., Follett et al. (2024), Chappell and Beven, (2024).
