Local artist Chas Jacobs joined students and staff at Lancaster University to hand over his latest painting, the Colleges at Lancaster.

The artwork, commissioned during the University’s 50th anniversary celebrations, depicts what is distinctive about Lancaster as one of only a handful of UK universities with a collegiate system.

Students and staff from each of the 9 Colleges received their copy of the artwork from Chas last week.

Provost for the Colleges Professor Amanda Chetwynd said: “We are so thrilled with the finished artwork. Chas has captured perfectly the look and feel of the colleges at Lancaster.”

Chas, whose work attracts collectors world-wide, said he had thoroughly enjoyed completing the commission.

“I’ve always had strong links with Lancaster University, going back to my childhood, so I was excited to receive the commission,” he said. “To be able to capture the Colleges at an important point in the University’s history was quite a privilege.”
