Understandings of psychological difficulties in Huntington's disease and expectations of psychological therapy

A pilot trial of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) with people with Huntington's disease (HD) is due to take place later this year (clinicaltrials.gov ICT:NCT02464293).

The current study aims to explore the hopes and expectations of some of those who are due to take part in the intervention, as well as their partners. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with up to 12 participants to explore their understanding of psychological distress and their beliefs about and expectations of the impact of psychological therapy for the person with HD.

The data will be analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis.
