How to Access LUBBS

To access LUBBS you will need your user name and password. When you registered at university Information Systems Services (ISS) will have given you a 'user name' (e.g. bloggsj) and a password (e.g. abc123). You use your user name and password to access the machines in the labs on campus or from your room with your machine on the resnet.

LUBBS runs on an operating system called 'Unix'. You may have been introduced to it at the start of your first year as a means of accessing your email. The university Unix machine is called 'cent1', so when you access it you will be logging on to 'cent1.lancs.ac.uk'. This is also known as the 'host machine'.

There are many ways to access Unix and consequently LUBBS, each of which depends on the machine you are using. For this reason we have provided step by step instructions for accessing LUBBS in a variety of ways. We hope that you will be able to select the combination most appropriate for the machine you are currently using. Please read the instructions carefully.
