The Language Testing Research Group and the Second Language Learning and Teaching Research Group are pleased to announce the following talk:
Doing Classroom Research
by Karmen Pizorn (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia)
Classroom research in foreign/second language learning, teaching and assessment is a broad umbrella term for empirical investigations within the language classroom. It may range from very simple one-off observations to tightly structured and highly controlled experiments. Its findings are important to researchers but also to practicing teachers who are the main proponents and beneficiaries of this kind of research.
The main focus of the talk will be on the main types of classroom research. In addition, some difficulties and challenges will be exploited. The participants will be provided with a range of studies, sample instruments, findings etc. which will exemplify different ways of doing classroom research.
The speaker has had a number of years of experience in doing classroom research within different national and international projects and also supervising a number of BA and MA theses which have examined how teaching, learning and assessment take place in language classrooms.
