Welcome to Graduate College

Lancaster is proud to be one of only a few universities in the UK to have a collegiate system. We have nine colleges in total, eight for undergraduates and one – Graduate College – for postgraduates. Our colleges are more than just places to live; each has a unique community, where it's easy to make friends with students of many different nationalities and walks of life.

About Graduate College

Graduate College is a friendly and welcoming community of postgraduate students and staff. The College attracts students from all over the world, creating a unique opportunity to mix with and learn about other cultures. We also offer a relaxed and quiet environment with the support and facilities you need to concentrate on your work.

Graduate College at 30 years

Since its creation on 4th July 1989, Graduate College has welcomed and supported thousands of students from all over the World. From our early days in Graduate Hall (now part of Bowland College), to the building of 'Barker House Student Village' on South-West campus, to the present day in our extended site on what is now called Alexandra Park - with our Undergraduate neighbours in Cartmel and Lonsdale Colleges. Our focus has been, and always will be to create the best student experience we can for our students, and to support them in achieving their best.

Some of our fantastic Alumni have shared their thoughts and memories, which we have turned into a short video.

A great location

Lancaster University is one of the safest self-contained campuses in the UK, with some of the UK’s most beautiful unspoilt countryside on the doorstep. From scenic country villages and seaside resorts to the lush countryside of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. The historic City of Lancaster is also just fifteen minutes away from campus by bus, with over 100 shops, dozens of pubs, and a castle dating back almost 1,000 years.

This diverse mix of city, coast and countryside adds a whole new dimension to the student experience and we regularly organise day trips to the countryside or some of our major cities including Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham. Find out more about Lancaster and its surrounding areas.

A supportive environment

We hope your time at Lancaster is productive and enjoyable as it can be, and provide a range of support services for students who need that little bit of extra help.

Our wellbeing and support services include the Chaplaincy Centre, as well as counselling, medical and health services, and a range of other services to help you with your academic and learning needs. If you are an international student, we provide guidance and support to help you settle in. This includes information on health services, climate, currency, and religion. We also offer support to students with families, including a range of accommodation options from one-bedroom flats ideal for couples, to three-bedroom family homes.

This is just a small flavour of the support we offer here at Lancaster University. If you have any questions at all, just ask, and a member of our team will be happy to help.
