A student on our MSc Marketing programme is the winner of the very first ‘Nom Habu Scholarship’.

Ibukunoluwa Oyegbesan has received an award of £10,000 to go towards her studies.

The Nom Habu Scholarship was introduced this year in honour of former staff member and postgraduate student, Nom Habu, who passed away after a short illness in December 2016. The Scholarship is awarded to a Nigerian or Ghanaian student who has an offer to study a postgraduate course at the Management School.

Ibukunoluwa, who had previously been working for KPMG Nigeria, said it felt “awesome” to win the scholarship.  “It definitely came at the right time and made my year,” she said.

She was attracted to Lancaster University because of its high rankings. She was also drawn to the course content of the MSc Marketing:

“The course is very interesting. I find it really insightful and it feels like I'm doing the right thing.

“The members of staff are very friendly. It's nice that the course convener has regular meetings with my cohort to enquire on our progress and well-being. The department also has a dedicated careers team that helps with our career progression goals.”

Annie Brunt, Head of International Office at Lancaster University said: “I’m delighted that this scholarship has been introduced in Nom’s memory.

“Nom was employed as the Regional officer, West Africa from May 2011 to August 2013, before he became a student on our MSc Quantitative Finance programme.  When he completed his studies, he worked as the Student Recruitment Manager for Lancaster University Ghana. This scholarship is a lovely way to remember him and his service to Lancaster University.”
