My research primarily focuses upon individuals with anorexia nervosa. Specifically, I am interested in how deficits in interoception (our ability to perceive our internal sensations) are implicated in the development and maintenance of anorexia nervosa, in particular distortions to body representations and sense of self. My PhD research will involve using tools such as virtual reality to explore aspects of body representation and embodiment in eating disorders and relating this to individuals' interoceptive abilities. The overall aim of my research is to determine whether interoceptive interventions may be an efficacious treatment avenue for people with anorexia nervosa.
Research Interests
Broadly, I am interested in the topics of interoception, eating disorders, and body representation. In particular, I have a keen interest in predictive coding models and interoceptive inference and their role in the formation of a sense of self and embodiment in clinical and non-clinical populations. I am also interested in therapeutic interventions and techniques which might aid in alleviating interoceptive dysfunctions in different populations, particularly those with eating disorders.
