Student Participants in the Research

In each of the curriculum units, students collaborated with researchers to investigate the literacy demands of their college courses and the range of reading and writing that they engaged with in their everyday lives. In total, the researchers collaborated with over 100 students ranging in age from 15 to 59.

Students chatting about project

Students worked with researchers to investigate the kinds of reading and writing they do in their everyday lives. Student read and write in a plethora of ways: for example, students played on-line computer gaming, organised household paperwork and bills, wrote poetry, read car magazines, novels and encyclopaedia. Many students initially thought that they wrote very little and were amazed to find that they actually did many different kinds of reading and writing throughout their everyday lives.
