Join the Work Foundation at Lancaster University and the MS Society to explore new research on the employment experiences of people with MS, and how the Government and employers can tailor support to ensure that those people with MS who want to work can thrive in their careers.
There are an estimated 150,000 people living with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the UK.
MS is a condition that affects the central nervous system, causing symptoms such as blurred vision and problems with movement, thinking and feeling. It is unpredictable, can change over time, affects people in different ways, and can lead to pain and significant fatigue.
Most people with MS are diagnosed in their 30s and 40s, and women are two and a half times more likely to develop it than men. As a result, MS can impact people’s ability to stay in work.
At a time when the UK Government has committed to increasing the employment rate and supporting disabled people and those with long-term conditions to remain in work, there is limited evidence on the employment experiences of people with conditions like MS.
Confirmed speakers:
- Dr Cara Molyneux (Senior Research Associate in Disability Studies, Lancaster University and Senior Policy Fellow, Disability Policy Centre)
- Jemma Redden (Head of Marketing, EvenBreak)
- Ross Barrett (Policy Manager, MS Society)
