The Work Foundation at Lancaster University is a hosting an online policy workshop for research and policy representatives from think tanks, civil society and policy bodies to discuss how we rethink existing time-off policies and consider new models to enable workers to live healthier lives.
People in the UK are living and working longer than ever before.
Over the last century, rights and access to time off work have steadily increased. However, our ageing workforce today has more complex health needs and evolving responsibilities outside of paid work, and access to time off continuous to remain unequal.
Meanwhile, employers are grappling with worker shortages in key sectors as the economy recovers after the pandemic and global economic shocks. With a new government in place, policymakers are under pressure to grow the working population and the economy over the coming Parliament.
The new Employment Rights Bill sets out day one rights for bereavement, paternity and parental leave – and are reviewing how the current parental leave system can support working parents.
The Work Foundation at Lancaster University is a hosting an online policy workshop for research and policy representatives from think tanks, civil society and policy bodies to discuss how we rethink existing time-off policies and consider new models to enable workers to live healthier lives. The workshop will include a presentation from Asli Atay (Policy Advisor, Work Foundation) on our recent Time Off research, followed by a structure discussion with participants led by Alice Martin (Head of Research, Work Foundation).
