What is Clearing?

Clearing gives you the opportunity to be considered by universities for entry if you have applied through UCAS but received no offers, or have not met the conditions set by your firm and insurance universities.

During Clearing you also have the opportunity to enquire about a place at another institution, even if you hold an offer elsewhere. Circumstances may change which mean you wish to decline an offer elsewhere in favour of selecting another course or university via Clearing.

If you have received an offer, ensure that you check your UCAS Track on Results Day to confirm whether you have been accepted by your chosen university for your chosen course. If you find that you have been unsuccessful once the results have been checked, UCAS Track will state ‘You are in Clearing’, or ‘Clearing has started’.

Making an application through Clearing

If you are interested in applying to Lancaster University via Clearing, you must first check if we have any vacancies for your chosen subject.

Once you have browsed the vacancies list and chosen a course, call us on our Clearing Hotline from 17 August 2017 to find out if the course is still available. Please ensure that you have your UCAS Personal ID and exam results to hand. During the call we’ll let you know if your qualifications meet the criteria, including any GCSE or subject-specific requirements that may apply.

If you are successful, you’ll receive a verbal offer of a place subject to verification of the exam results you stated on the phone. You’ll then receive email confirmation of the offer, and you will need to refer yourself via Clearing to Lancaster University where the University will then confirm your place.
