Cassini-Huygens: an Odyssey to Saturn and Titan
Abstract: The speaker, former Science Director at the European Space Agency, began looking at a mission to Saturn and Titan in 1982. It took7 years for ESA and NASA to agree to do it. After 8 years the mission was launched and 7 years after that came Saturn arrival and then the landing of the probe Huygens on Titan. The mother ship Cassini continued exploring the Saturn system for 13 year finally plunging in the Saturn atmosphere in September 2017. Prof Southwood will describe the highs and lows of an extraordinary journey.
