Recording by Nobel laureate Elfriede Jelinek

Conference organisers Prof Allyson Fiddler (DELC), Dr Rebecca Braun (DELC) and Dr Karen Juers-Munby (LICA) are delighted to have been sent a special recording of Austrian Nobel laureate Elfriede Jelinek reading from her play, Ein Sportstück. Jelinek has made the recording in honour of Lancaster University's upcoming conference on her work (the first ever in the UK) and on the occasion of the world première of the English translation of Sports Play at the Nuffield Theatre on 11 July (transl. Penny Black with Karen Juers-Munby). The recording can be heard at full conference details are at addition to papers on Jelinek's work (and its intersection with sport as theme and as discourse), there is an interactive translation workshop (involving materials from a number of different languages) and a roundtable on Plays in Translation on the British Stage. The conference and the première are generously supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum (London).
