Why Should I Study Theatre at Lancaster?
Theatre at Lancaster is at the forefront of exploring the practice and theory of contemporary drama, dance and performance. We provide an outstanding learning environment based on research-led teaching by internationally renowned scholars and practitioners.
Theatre at Lancaster focuses on contemporary drama, theatre, dance and performance. Our approach combines practice with the theory and history of theatre and culture, led by leading academics and practitioners in the field. Our wide-ranging research and teaching environment provide expertise in British and European theatre, theatre making and writing, dance and physical theatre, as well as political and social approaches to drama and performance.

Learning and research is supported by our close links to Lancaster Arts, The Dukes and its Centre for Creative Learning. As part of the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts, Theatre benefits from access to outstanding facilities, including the recent £10 million LICA building and one of the best black box studios in Europe, the Nuffield Theatre.
Theatre offers undergraduate and postgraduate research degrees in a supportive and stimulating atmosphere that fosters independent thought and creativity. Strong careers support and links with the creative industries at local, national and international levels promote the professional development of students.
We encourage students to develop an international perspective on their thinking and making. We have an international exchange programme with partner universities in the United States, Canada and Australia. The University is an international community, in Theatre this includes students from many European countries, North and South America, Asia and South East Asia and further afield.
