Why did you choose to study at LUMS?

Apart from the fact that LUMS was one of the best management schools in the UK, I was very amazed with how beautiful the campus was. I believed Lancaster University has committed to large-scale investments in the Management School and its facilities. Furthermore, the presence of LUMS Careers Service was the biggest reason why I came to study here. I believed their support would be very precious in preparing me to find a perfect career – and at this point, I can tell that I made a right decision!

What was the best thing about your course?

The nature of my course involved a great deal of independent research, self-motivation, and a wide range of skills, especially quantitative and problem-solving skills, making my learning experiences very enjoyable, stimulating, and super challenging.

What/who inspired you most at LUMS and why?

Oh! That’s a very tough question! Honestly, I am not able to name one only. Everyone on campus has been very amazing – lecturers, staff, and friends have made my study experience very great and unforgettable. All of them are my inspirations.

Did you do a project, placement or study abroad? What did this involve and what did you gain?

I did volunteering work with St. John Ambulance as a part of my university project. As a Team PIC, I was in charge of managing fundraising projects and related specific activities within given constraints of time and ensuring scope, schedule, and costs were reasonable and achievable. I was also involved in planning, scheduling, and controlling activities to fulfil identified objectives by applying technical, theoretical, and managerial skills to satisfy the client’s requirements.

Describe your time at LUMS in three words.

Exciting, Stimulating, Challenging.

What are your best memories of your time at Lancaster?

Lancaster University not only provided me with a Business Analytics degree, but also filled my life with very precious moments and unforgettable lessons. My times as an Academic Representative and a Student Ambassador enabled me to demonstrate and improve my leadership, communication, organisation, and time management skills.

What are the best things about living in the Lancaster area?

Very beautiful city, safe area, super friendly people!

Which parts of your Lancaster experience were the best preparation for your job?

When I applied for the Lancaster Award and successfully achieved a Gold Award – this is an award from Lancaster University that is given to students with multiple extracurricular activities and highly valued workplace skills. I was very motivated to work harder and try new things including doing part-time jobs given the fact that my extracurricular activities were appreciated. Balancing academic and non-academic life is not easy and very challenging, however, I was very glad that these experiences helped me gain invaluable employability skills.

What impact has your Lancaster experience had on your career?

Gaining a Business Analytics degree from LUMS put me in a strong position to compete for competitive jobs, especially during these tough times. The flexibility of the course enabled me to choose modules where I could gain expertise within a specific area. For instance, as I was keen to learn technical tools that would be useful for my future career, I decided to do modules such as Advanced Spreadsheet Modelling and Business Forecasting. I believe I would not have started a career in Amazon, the biggest retailer in the world, without the support from the LUMS community.
