Why did you choose to undertake your PhD at LUMS?

I chose to undertake my PhD because LUMS offered me full studentship and many existing PhD students told me LUMS is a good place to do a PhD.

What was the focus of your doctoral research?

I was doing risk analysis, risk management, and behavioral economics, with applications in operations management and finance.

How did you benefit from the research training offered at LUMS?

Our departments offered a series of training courses at different universities. I was able to meet many PhD students from other universities and share our research during the training courses.

What/who inspired you most at LUMS and why?

I would like to express my sincere thankfulness to my supervisor. He was very helpful in my research development. He guided me on how to do good research, and offered me many opportunities to work closely with the industry.

Describe your time at LUMS in three words.

Peaceful, inspiring, focus

What are your best memories of your time at Lancaster?

My PhD was quite different from many other students. I was traveling between Lancaster and Hong Kong during my PhD study because one of my supervisors move to Hong Kong in my second year. My department was extremely supportive no matter where I conducted my research.

What are the best things about living in the Lancaster area?

Lancaster is a very small city and it has very good public transportation. It is very convenient to visit the Lake District during weekends or go to Manchester to treat yourself a good meal. The living cost is relatively low and the accommodation is very good on campus.

What impact did scholarships or funding have on your degree experience?

The studentship waived my tuition fee and provided living cost. So I was able to focus on my research without any financial concerns. I was required to do TA work for my scholarship. I enjoyed the TA work and had a great time with the undergraduates.

Which parts of your Lancaster experience were the best preparation for your job?

The department was very supportive to attend different conferences. There are many job opportunities in those conferences.
