Two LUMS students have been awarded the prestigious Chancellor’s Medal.

Daniel Fabisch (BA Hons Business Economics) and Sam Rawsthorne (BSc Hons Accounting and Finance) were awarded the prizes, given to the top students from each faculty, at last week’s graduation ceremonies.

Sam took home not only the Chancellor’s Award, but also the Departmental prize for Best Overall Part II Performance and The Ernst & Young Prize for Best Aggregate Performance in Financial Reporting. He will be adding his three new prizes to the second year departmental award which he received last year. Now that the term is over, Sam will be working in the Accounting and Finance Department as a Research Assistant, before beginning the MSc Advanced Financial Analysis in the autumn.

Steve Young, Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance, said: “Sam continues the Department of Accounting and Finance’s proud record over the last decade of producing Chancellor’s Medal winners. Sam’s performance throughout his second and third years has been truly exceptional, with a consistent stream of first class marks across all modules. He has demonstrated a rare combination of outstanding quantitative ability complemented by excellent writing and presentation skills.

“I am delighted that Sam has decided to continue his studies at Lancaster despite receiving very competitive job offers. Sam will join the MSc in Advanced Financial Analysis programme in October with the intention of progressing to PhD in 2018. The department has awarded Sam a full scholarship for his graduate studies in recognition of his excellent results and his potential to become a top postgraduate student."

Daniel also received multiple awards, taking home both the Chancellor’s Medal and the prize for best student in the Economics Department which he has won both this year and in his second year. In October, Daniel will taking up a place on the MSc in Real Estate Economics at the University of Cambridge.

He said: “Studying at LUMS has been a fantastic experience. I had the opportunity to learn from world-class academics and work with motivated students- an environment that greatly supports academic success. In particular, Professor Robert Simmons and Dr Hilary Ingham not only inspired me with their interesting lectures, but also were a massive help and support throughout my degree and beyond. Receiving the Chancellor's Medal is the perfect end to three years of hard work at Lancaster and I am immensely grateful for this honour.”
