A team of five Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) students demonstrated their eye for business with a podium finish in the national finals of Universities Business Challenge Global Masters competition.

The LUMS team of Adithya Iyer (MSc Advanced Financial Analysis), Sidharth Kumar (MSc Finance), Mohanad Alhosaini (MBA), Varun Valecha (MBA), and Sarmistha Padhi (MBA) finished third in the UK.

The event is the world’s leading online simulation-based inter-university competition designed to develop the employability and enterprise skills of high-calibre postgraduate students. After six weeks of intense online competition, the leading teams from across the UK battled it out in the finals at the University of Southampton.

Team captain Mohanad was delighted with their success. He said: “Reaching the final round of the Universities Business Challenge against such fierce competition was an incredible feat, and securing third place is a testament to the amazing team we had.

“Our success stemmed from both the incredible support and learning environment at Lancaster University Management School, and the incredible responsibility, inclusivity, and enthusiasm each team member brought to the table.”

Rory Daly, Head of LUMS Careers, added: “The team have been great ambassadors for LUMS and performed to a very high standard in the qualifying rounds and at the final.”

The LUMS entry was sponsored by the LUMS Alumni Fund. Grace Mercer, LUMS Philanthropy Manager, said: “To have such a fantastic result, backed by the Lancaster community, is great news. Lancaster’s alumni and philanthropists across the globe will be over the moon to have been part of providing this opportunity.”
