Country of origin: Taiwan

Public Affairs Senior Manager, Procter & Gamble (Taiwan)

After my first degree in Journalism, I worked as a broadcaster and a reporter for TVBS News channel in Taiwan for four years. I took special responsibility for the president’s coverage. I have interviewed many important politicians and celebrities. Life in the media industry was fun and challenging.  However, I never forgot my dream of being a marketing person.

I quit in 2007 to pursue my MBA degree in Lancaster in order to fulfil that dream. I knew what I was looking for. I needed to find an MBA programme that could provide me with solid business knowledge, practical internship opportunities, and the chance to work with multicultural colleagues. Hence the Lancaster MBA, with its strong action learning dimension, became my first priority.

The career consulting lectures and the practice job interview, all part of the MBA Career Advancement Programme, helped me a lot. They pushed me to plan my future career at the beginning of the programme and ensured that each step moved me closer to my goal. The job consultants reminded me that “in the path of career changing, the key issue to success is what you will take along with you”. I always kept their words in mind.

I made good use of the opportunities provided by the New Venture Challenge and the Consultancy Challenge to work with real enterprises, and I also joined the international exchange programme with Lingnan College, Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China. It is great that Lancaster University has links with world-class partner institutions around the world.

I decided to undertake my summer internship and finish my dissertation in China. I gained a lot of valuable business experience from the marketing internship project. I understood that practical experience can be worth more than theory. It totally reshaped my mind. Meanwhile, it helped me to utilise my communication skills with business knowledge to turn myself into a marketing professional.

After the MBA, I first joined the marketing team of UPS in Taiwan and took responsibility for marketing communications, and later P&G Taiwan. I believe the strength I gained from my earlier media training and the business study in Lancaster has made a valuable contribution to my future career. I feel lucky to be a Lancaster MBA and I will never forget this wonderful year.
