Supply Chain Graduate Trainee, Rolls-Royce
Lancaster offers a flexible course design with plenty of opportunities to tailor your degree to specific areas within business and management. The BBA Management also includes a compulsory year on a work placement, which helps provide vital industry experience before graduation. This proved to be an essential learning curve which I benefited greatly from.
I also chose Lancaster University as it was one of the few universities with a campus and collegiate structure. The welcoming, friendly staff and students I met on the open day I attended greatly influenced my decision.
I liked the fact the course was relatively small – the group really pulled together and there was a good work and social life between students on the BBA. The group also acted as a strong support system, especially through the final year.
In my spare time, I was a member of the University’s equestrian and badminton clubs. In my final year I was also a Lancaster University Management School Ambassador. My main role as an ambassador was to organise the student presence on Management School open days and liaise with School staff to ensure the days ran smoothly.
My year’s work placement was at Rolls-Royce, based in Derby. I worked in Civil Aerospace within Supply Chain Management and undertook two six-month placements. The first was based in the spare parts warehouse where my role was to reduce costs. During this placement I gained a world-recognised qualification for my skills as a product and process improvement leader. My second placement was in Customer Logistics and involved a number of projects, such as helping improve office efficiency, starting an initial training plan for roles needed in a new make facility in Singapore, and providing support to source modified engine parts.
After the year in industry I was offered a place on Rolls-Royce’s Supply Chain Graduate Scheme. I will be returning there in September where I will undertake various placements on a rotation scheme within Supply Chain Management.
