My decision to study at Lancaster University was always clear. I completed my undergraduate course in Business Management in another British institution – Southampton Solent University – and I wanted to continue my studies in a more challenging and stimulating environment. The national and international reputation of LUMS, the quality of teaching, and the opportunity to obtain a scholarship convinced me that studying at Lancaster University would be the best choice for my future career.
The theoretical and critical approach that characterises the MSc Human Resource and Knowledge Management programme provides a unique deep analysis of many aspects of contemporary management. The programme gives you a really insightful view into the development of modern HR practices and the increasing importance of knowledge management in organisations. I particularly enjoyed the focus on the individual and his/her multifaceted relationship with the notion of work.
Although you may feel slightly lost at the beginning (the campus is right in the heart of the British countryside), studying at Lancaster University is a beautiful experience. Not only because of the quality of the University and its facilities, but also because of the special quality of living on campus. It is a vibrant environment where I had the opportunity to meet people from many nationalities and backgrounds – students, now friends, who have shaped my thinking and my personality.
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in clubs, societies and social life on campus and in the town of Lancaster. I was part of my College football team which was a perfect occasion to take a break from studying, enjoy my free time and meet new people. You would also have found me almost every night at the college bar!
I now work within the Human Resource department of an American company called Pegasystems. I am responsible for the recruitment across the European region of the company. The LUMS Careers Team helped me to prepare for the final interview and all the various steps in the recruitment process, and the content of the MSc programme gave me an excellent insight into the dynamics of the corporate environment.
