Senior HR Consultant, LFS Financial Systems
Prior to enrolling on the MA Management and Consulting (now called MA Human Resources and Consulting) at Lancaster University, I was working with a leading microfinance institution on various training and development roles across Latin America. My work principally focused on designing, coordinating and delivering training programmes, as well as supporting other career development processes. As my academic background was Business Administration, a lot of my practice was based on learning by doing. After deciding to complement my practical experience with a Masters degree in HR development, the Management and Consulting programme at Lancaster University quickly became my first choice, due to its participative and practical focus.
The experiences I had on this programme were fantastic. Although the courses were completely different to how I imagined, I think that in the end my expectations in terms of learning were exceeded. The liberty of freely choosing my topics of interest facilitated strong reflection processes and an incredibly steep learning curve.
The integrated real-world Consulting Project provided an infinite amount of insights, not only in HR and consulting issues, but also in the complex world of group dynamics and social relations. Furthermore, the group tutorial sessions at the end of the programme were a great support in the process of dissertation writing.
During my time at Lancaster I enjoyed a lot of social activities. I joined the Ballroom Dancing Society to practise salsa once a week and was a full member of the sports centre. The social aspects of campus life – be it in formal societies or informally with friends and course mates – contributed vastly to make this year an unforgettable experience.
Since completing the programme, I am working as Senior HR Consultant in LFS Financial Systems, an advisory firm based in Berlin, Germany, which specialises in banking and financial sector projects in developing and transition countries. Being responsible for global management training and development, I now really benefit from what I learned during the MA. It's the programme’s methodological approach which has had a huge impact on my work.
