40th Anniversary Celebration - Linguistics and English Language

You are invited to join the celebrations as the Department of Linguistics and English Language turns 40 in 2014 - the same year that the University turns 50!  We hope you are able to join us in this double-anniversary celebration.

The Linguistics and English Language celebration will comprise one and a half days of academic and social events on the Lancaster campus, featuring an appreciation of the past as well as an outlook to the future in the areas that the Department is famous for.  There will be contributions from people who have shaped the history of the Department, as well as insights into the work of current staff and a Q&A with the audience. 

Daytime programme: Friday 11 July and Saturday 12 July

Charles Alderson, Chris Candlin, Norman Fairclough, Roz Ivanic, Geoff Leech, Mick Short

The programme for Friday 11 July 2014 will also include a public lecture by David and Hilary Crystal on 'How to be an English Language Tourist.'

Evening dinner at Lancaster Town Hall: Friday 11 July
The celebratory dinner will include: a wide-ranging musical programme provided by the Department's home-grown musicians and a performance by David and Hilary Crystal on their work on Shakespeare's Original Pronunciation

The daytime programme is free to attend and the cost for the dinner is £30.
