Introducing Britain

Culture, Language and Society from the Age of Empire to Brexit

 

Explore British culture, history and politics over the past three hundred years, focussing on crucial historical events and their impact on Britain, during 3 weeks of July.

Sample Programme

The programme relates to areas of English language, Communications, Literature, Linguistics, History, Politics, Sociology, International Relations or PR etc. 

Introducing Britain is equivalent to a first-year undergraduate Lancaster University course. Students who complete this course are awarded 3 US / 6 ECTS credits or 4 US / 8 ECTS credits. The amount of credits depends on which version of the course the student chooses.

It can be taken as a stand-alone programme or prior to study at Lancaster or another British university.

Cost & Accommodation

The cost for 2019 is to be confirmed and will cover:

  • teaching
  • assessment
  • overnight stays in Lancaster, Manchester and Ambleside
  • transport
  • some meals

We anticipate your living costs (food, drink etc) to be around £60.00 per week extra.

This course is subject to a minimum enrolment of 12 students.

Understanding Britain

Developments in British Culture, Language and Society (1800-Present) - (formerly known as the International Summer Programme)

Understanding Britain is a more advanced module equivalent to a second-year course. Students who complete this course are awarded 4 US / 8 ECTS credits. 

It can be taken as a stand-alone programme or prior to study at Lancaster or another British university.

The cost for 2019 is to be confirmed and will cover:

  • orientation
  • teaching
  • assessment
  • field trips
  • 4-weeks' accommodation on campus - single, self-catering study-bedrooms are available for all Understanding Britain students.

We anticipate your living costs (food, drink etc) to be around £80.00 per week extra.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

2 September – Friday 27 September 2019

The English for Academic Purposes (Study Skills) Programme is for international students intending to study at Lancaster University, and who are required or wish to improve their English language and study skills before starting their degree studies.

Students applying for the programme must first of all have undergone the standard Lancaster University admissions procedures.
