Spaces

The LICA Building, Great Hall Complex and Bowland Annex house facilities supporting creative activities across various artistic disciplines.

The LICA building, designed specifically for contemporary arts students, opened in 2011 and was the first higher education building in the UK to receive an outstanding BREEAM Award for sustainability, one of only two such awards in the country. The facilities include bright, open teaching spaces, flexible performance and workshop areas, well-equipped seminar rooms, purpose-built editing suites, and computer labs.

The building also features one of the largest event spaces at the university, which is used for teaching, film screenings, and student performances. This spacious two-storey area has a suitable floor for dance, along with lighting rigs, speakers, projectors, and screens. Additionally, the LICA building includes a large atrium, perfect for displaying student projects.

The Great Hall complex includes several important facilities: the Nuffield Theatre (a site of national importance for the creation of new work); the Peter Scott Gallery; the Jack Hylton recital room and recording studios; and a Play Room with sprung floor.

Two floors of art studios and a workshop are located in the Bowland Annex, situated across from the Great Hall square.
