Our Creative Writing program has a rich history that dates back to 1970, marking us as one of the pioneers of this discipline in the UK. We continue to lead the field with award-winning authors as our tutors, and our students frequently publish their work both during their time with us and afterward.

Our students have access to a rich array of Libraries, Archives and Special Collections, enabling them not only to develop as scholars, critics, and writers but also to learn skills relating to work as future archivists, librarians, and curators.
Archives and Special CollectionsFurther guidance on the research proposal structure, writing a personal statement and submitting a writing sample has been provided for those wishing to apply for the PhD in either English Literature or Creative Writing.
